Oesterreichische Flugzeugfabrik A.G. (Oeffag) obtained the license for the well-tested Albatros D.III and improved on the design in several series of aeroplanes with increasingly larger engines. Series 253 used the 225hp Daimler engine, and the wings and airframe were strengthened, overcoming the main weakness of the original design. Furthermore, the machine guns were moved to the top deck where they could be serviced by the pilot during flight -- earlier designs buried the twin Scharzlose guns under the decking panels. The Series 253 also featured wire-edge elevators, leading to a scallopped appearance. 330 Series 253 planes were built in two batches. For many pilots, they were the ultimate Austro-Hungarian fighter, even including the later Phönix fighters.
This plane comes in both 1:144 and 1:285/6mm/1:288 scales.
The 1:285 product has two aircraft, connected by disposable links.
