Product Description
In 1919 the US Navy did a series of studies for a series of small battleship designs, the one shown here being the A7 Scheme. Most of them are very similar, the only differences being slightly shorter or longer based on the engine output and the speed. They had the following specifications: design F3, 500ft (waterline) long, 21500 tons, 18 kn; design A7, 510ft (wt), 24000 tons, 20 kn; design B5, 570ft (wt), 28500 tons, 23kn; design C5, 650ft (wt), 33400 tons, 26kn; design D11, 710ft, 37000 tons, 29kn. All of them had an armament of four 16/50in guns, these being the longer type with which was supposed to be armed the South Dakota class of the 1920s, but these were in two twin turrets. The only exception in the design studies was design E3, which had two more guns in two triple turrets and had these specifications: 530ft (wt), 26250 tons, 20kn (basically a variant of the A7 design with triples instead of twins).
