Product Description
The 10 cm/65 Type 98 was a dual-purpose naval gun developed in 1938. It was the best Japanese AA gun of the Second World War, though of a slightly smaller calibre than contemporary British, American or German weapons of the period. It had very quick rate of fire and high muzzle velocity, with the downside of rather short barrel life, but the guns could be loaded at any elevation (an important factor considering it could elevate up to 90°).
It was almost exclusively used in twin enclosed mounts, and were used on the Akizuki class destroyers, the carriers Taiho and Shinano, and the cruiser Oyodo; they were also to form the secondary armament for the never-completed remaining two Yamato class units (N.111 and N.797), and the B-64/B-65 super heavy (large) cruiser design.
