Product Description
CSS Tallahassee was originally named Atalanta, and was a blockade runner between Bermuda and Wilmington when bought by the Confederate Navy. Originally she was an iron-hulled cruiser built on the Thames to the design of a Royal Navy officer. As CSS Tallahassee she attacked several Union vessels on the East coast, going as far north as Canada. Renamed Olustee after the battle of the same name in late 1864, under a new captain; renamed yet again, this time CSS Chameleon, in December of the same year, the vessel stopped in Bermuda to take on provisions. However, after two failed attempts at entering blockaded harbours, Chameleon made sail to England and was interned in Liverpool. She was handed over to the US government after cessation of hostilities and sold at auction. The ship was wrecked off Yokohama, Japan, in July 1869.
