Product Description
This is the right hand side gearcase to convert a Tamiya TRF211XM or TRF201XM/XMW, or TRF201XR to a 4 gear layback (or short laydown) transmission. Unlike the previously released 3 gear layback transmission, this drivetrain uses two stock Tamiya 27t idler gears stacked on top of eachother, with the motor plate moved to the left to reverse the motor rotation for added traction on low grip surfaces. This transmission has several advantages over the stock Tamiya 4 gear standup transmission supplied with the TRF201XM/W and TRF211XM. The motors is pushed 17mm forward from the Tamiya 4 gear motor position improving the weight distribution. Using the Yokomo BMAX 4 gear motor plate lowers the layshaft, and combined with the stacked idler arrangement massively lowers the centre of gravity, improving corner speed.  For the shock tower, email Fibre Lyte and ask for the CTE RC 3 gear laydown shock tower (they are the same across all CTE RC transmissions). The battery plate is the same as the 3 gear layback, and it also available from Fibre Lyte. Ask for the Layback Battery Plate.

For the complete conversion you will need this part, the Left Hand gearcase (http://shpws.me/RG6I), the 3 gear Layback hole guide (http://shpws.me/R7a1) and either the transmission brace if you have the TRF211XM (http://shpws.me/QO4x), or the TRF201 Waterfall if you have a TRF201XR/M/MW (http://shpws.me/R4Wf). If you have previously purchased one of the 3 gear conversions, you don't need a new Transmission brace or waterfall. These are the same as the 3 gear.

There is an optional Spur Gear Cover. If you don't want a cover you need the Spacer (http://shpws.me/R78x). The full cover which encircles the spur gear as much as possible, and is unique to the 4 gear so you will need one even if you already have one for the 3 gear (http://shpws.me/RG6H).

To complete the conversion you will need:
2 x Tamiya 27t TRf201 idler: 54262 (includes reinforced ball diff gear too)
2 x Yokomo YZ2 or Tamiya kit ilder shaft: Yokomo part Z2-303I or Tamiya kit or 54344 TA06/FF03 Lightweight Idler Shaft
Yokomo BMAX YZ2 4 gear motor plate: Z2-304
CTE RC 3GL suspension tower (available from Fibre Lyte: email sales@fibre-lyte.co.uk)
CTE RC Layback Battery plate (available from Fibre Lyte: email sales@fibre-lyte.co.uk)
This conversion requires rear mounted shocks. Tamiya 51449 DN01 R Parts or the 54142 DB01R High Traction Reinforced Arms or 51313 DB01 arms all work.

You will also need assorted bearings and fasteners.
Diff/outdrive bearings - 2 x 1510
Idlers - 4 x 1050
Slipper Shaft - 1 x 840, 1 x 1050

It uses the stock rear suspension and clears the 3.0, XA and XB aluminium inboard rear suspension blocks (but not the plastic one from the original TRF201 kit). You do not need the special tapered front block from the XM conversions for this gearcase.

For fasteners you need need:
2 x Countersink head M3 x 10 (front gearcase to tub)
2 x Countersink head M3 x 7 (middle gearcase to tub)
2 x Countersink head M3 x 20 (rear gearcase to tub)
2 x Countersink head M3 x 15 (new front battery stop holes drilled using drill guide)
1 x Countersink head M3 x 10 (rearmost motor plate)
2 x Countersink head M3 x 35 (the other 2 motor plate/gearcase halves)
1 x cap head M3 x 15 (rearmost gearcase)
1 x cap head M3 x 20 + 1 x M3 Nut (middle gearcase and front top gearcase/transmission brace)
1 x cap head M3 x 25 + M3 nut (front transmission brace to battery stop)
4 x cap head M3 x 10 (shock tower mounting)

The bearing seats should all be cleaned out with a scalpel/Xacto knife. The 2.5mm holes should be tapped with an M3 tap. After using the drill guide to drill the front holes with a 3.1mm drill, on the TRF211 plastic tub open out the countersinks using an Xactoknife. Do not use a drill. For the aluminium XM/XR plate, drill the holes and open out the countersinks with a proper M3 countersink drill bit.

Cobra Racing (https://www.facebook.com/groups/539051429511100/) make a bespoke chassis to install any of our CTE RC transmissions . If you need the front standup parts BB26 and BB27 to move to a plate chassis, order these with your transmission (http://shpws.me/RgSC)
