Product Description
This HO scale flat kit builds into a replacement body for the Atlas B23-7 locomotive shell representing cabless booster units originally owned by Burlington Northern in series 4000-4052.
This kit is made up of several parts that fit with each other using a tab and slot system. Each part must be cleaned thoroughly to ensure a good fit between the parts. Assemble the parts on a flat surface using a tiny amount of CA "super glue" to tack the parts together on the inside of the body shell. When satisfied with the fit of the parts run a bead of CA on the inside of the joint to finish the bond.
This kit reuses the radiator screen and photoetch part from the original model, as well as the sill and drive. Some detail parts will have to be provided by the modeler, including headlight housings, sand filler hatches, grab irons and an exhaust stack (Hi-Tech makes a bathtub type exhast that will fit), though some parts may be able to be repurposed from the core Atlas model.
The modeler will also have to modify the sill to remove the seats and fill in some slots where the cab would have been mounted. In addition there will be a gap in the handrails in the area of the missing cab that can be replaced with wire and Utah Pacific or Smokey Valley stanchions.
The more adventurous modeler will shorten the sill by six scale inches at each end, modify the taper to the stepwells and shorten the frame to match.
