Product Description
Upgrade rear upright for the Tamiya DT02 and DT03 and DT03-T chassis buggies. Neo Fighter, Racing Fighter, Desert Gator, Sand Viper, Holiday Buggy 2010, Street Rover, Super Fighter GR etc
Replaces the kit rear upright which has no adjustment or toe in. 3 degree toe in is the setting used on most race cars. Allows the chassis to put power down much earlier and more cleanly coming out of a corner. This item is also improved over the kit part by being much more compact, and it does not bind on the lower wishbone like the kit upright does. It allows nearly 10mm more droop in the high ride height setting, giving much better set up options and roll capacity, for more grip.
The adjustment is in the form of three holes for the top camber link which allows the use of longer top arms. Longer arms gives the rear end more grip and more progressive feel. The inboard position is pretty much the same position as the kit upright, giving you two more outboard options. Using spacers under the ball end on the upright also allows you to tune the roll centre and grip level of your buggy.
To install, clean out the shoulders of the bearing bores with a scalpal or XACTO knife. Press the 1150 bearings into the upright and then you are ready to install. There are 2 x 1150 bearings per upright. If they are a tight fit, use the axle end as a drift to tap them in, or use the wheel hex without the cross pin and the wheel nut to press them in.
Drill the bottom pivot with a 3.1mm drill to clean them out. Tap the three top holes with an M3 tap. They do not need cleaning out with a drill.
Warning:
This is not compatible with the kit plastic top arms, large plastic driveshafts and outdrives or the ball nuts in the turnbuckle sets. You must replace these with turnbuckle links, metal driveshafts and ball connectors.
The rear camber links are part of a turnbuckle kit for front and rear upper arms and steering arms. You need the correct kit for your chassis:
Or you can use the Outdrive 9804237 with any univeral shafts for the Thunder Dragon/DF01/DF02/DF03 chassis from Tamiya or many other aftermarket brands. Do NOT use the GPM aluminium driveshafts. These are the same size as the kit plastic shafts and will not fit. If you are fitting Ball Differential 58363 you do not need the outdrives listed above as this kit comes with splined metal outdrives to use with the metal drive shafts and axle ends.
For the top of the uprights, use 5 x 9mm ball connectors Tamiya 9805611. These will give a secure fixing to the upright and have scope to have spacers installed to tune the handling. These are used in place of the M3 screw and ball nuts in the turnbuckle set.
Adjust the length of the turnbuckle link to give you around 3 deg negative camber to start with. The inner hole is similar to the kit position, with the two holes further out giving progressively more grip and roll.
