The
Friedrichshafen G.III could barely be steered with an engine out. The company improved that by moving to a biplane tail, putting a rudder directly in each engine slipstream, in the
Friedrichshafen G.IIIa. Other improvements included a larger fuel tank, wider undercarriage, and ailerons with Flettner assists. A Gotha-style tunnel was added to the rear-gunner's position so he could lie on the cockpit floor and shoot to the rear underside. They started appearing at the front in mid-1918 and by August there were 95 in service.
This model comes in 1:144, 1:285/6mm/1:288, 1:600, and 1:700 scales. The 1:285 model uses propeller disks rather than blades, since blades are difficult to print at this scale.
The 1:600 and 1:700 scale products have four planes on sprues to keep the cost down. Those very-small-scale models have no propellers and no crew, since they are difficult to represent at that scale.
DESIGNER NOTE:
Models at scales smaller than 1:144 may no longer be available. Shapeways discontinued the material for which they were designed, and the newer materials require that each and every model be adjusted to thicken surfaces like wings. If you are interested in a particular model in a small scale, please let me know and I will prioritize it higher in the queue.
