Product Description
This model allows you two build two different vehicles by swapping out the main gun.
In December of 1943, shortly after Kliment Voroshilov fell from political favour, the vehicles named after him were overhauled in their design: the KV-85 was developed into the IS-1, and the SU-152, built on the same chassis as the KV-85, was developed into the ISU-152, which was built on the IS-1 chassis. Like its predecessor, the ISU-152 was armed with the 152.4mm ML-20S howitzer, and intended for use as armoured field artillery, but also made a potent tank destroyer, thus inheriting the nickname "Zveroboi" (Зверобой), or "beast killer." This particular model is the 1944 model, which has the slightly longer ML-20SM howitzer, mainly because it was the only one I could get decent blueprints for.
Another vehicle was built with a similar design, using the exact same turretless hull, but a different gun, as it was meant for a different role. Although the ISU-122 used the A-19 gun, which had the same ballistic capabilities as the D-25T gun on the IS-2, the ISU-122 was preferred at the time, because it was simpler to construct and could carry more ammunition. After the War, however, because it had no other advantages over the IS-2 and later heavy heavy tanks, most ISU-122s were converted into ARVs or armoured carriers, whereas the ISU-152 was kept in service and modernised in later years.
