Product Description
Sprue of four brakes assemblies, each containing two brake blocks (simulating wooden blocks), hangers, push rods and tumbler. The blocks are set to the "off" position for a wagon with 7'6" wheelbase and wheels of 3'1" nominal diameter. The purchaser should supply separately the brake shaft and its V-hangers, as these are best made of brass.
When applying these prints to a wagon, please check carefully the clearance between the brake blocks and the wheels before fixing the brake assembly. Experiments in CAD suggest that there is ample clearance for wheels that are 12mm over tread (e.g. AGW products) and very little clearance for wheels that scale to 3'2" (e.g. Excactoscale). If you are short of clearance you can cut back the rubbing surface of the blocks by gently sanding or filing, but please support each block arefully as you work on it because the hangers and push-rods will not withstand large forces.
These particular brakes were modelled to suit an obscure and early type of type of private-owner wagon known only from a photograph: hence the unusual wheelbase and rather approximate sizing of the parts. I plan to introduce more brake assemblies in this style, modelled for specific and better-documented wagons. I invite suggestions for subjects.
