A scutoid is a newly discovered prismatoid shape that has been in the news quite a lot lately. The scutoid shape is one of several shapes of cells that can be found in epithelial tissues in nature, and these enable the curvature of layers of these cells. To learn more about this recent discovery by a team of biologists, mathematicians and physicists, you can read the article on Nature.com
here. Alternatively watch the very informative and entertaining YouTube video by Matt Parker (which was my actual inspiration for this design)
here.
This design demonstrates the 3d packing properties of the scutoid shape. A single ring has one scutoid shaped ornament on top. When you wear two they pack neatly together.
Please note: While you can wear a single one of this ring, I have desinged it so that wearing two of them above each other on the same finger demonstrates the 3d packing properties of the scutoid shape. I have uploaded the design as a single item so that you can choose different materials for the two copies if you want to. This item is a single copy of the ring design.
To get the stacking effect shown in some the pictures, you will need to order two copies.
Choose tour ring size from the drop down ment to the right. If your size is not listed, please contact me and I will add it.
