Product Description
This model, in a choice of 1:700 or 1:600 scale, is of the famous seaplane facility on Ford Island in the middle of Pearl Harbor.

For a short but excellent description and historical account please go to this US Library of Congress web page and click on the PDF Data Pages button. Clicking on the photo button reveals a series of shots of the hangar as it was in 1985 with all of the massive expanses of glazing painted over.

The hangar features in several pictures on the Naval History and Heritage Command pages showing the aftermath of the December 7 1941 attack HERE.

It was the Army who first established an airbase, subsequently named Luke Field, on the island in 1917. The Navy set up their establishment in 1919 and the two services agreed to share the island's runway while maintaining separate maintenance and administrative facilities. There are some excellent pre-WW2 photos and many others HERE

Please Note that you have a choice of scale for this model : please check your choice in the top right of this page.
