Product Description
The twin-boom Ago C.I pushers were instantly recognizable. Small numbers of them were used for reconnaissance in 1915-1916, tailing off after summer.  The Ago was one of the very few single-engine pushers used by the Germans, and it holds the distinction of being the first German plane armed with the Parabellum LMG14 machine gun, where the prototype was used in combat evaluation in April 1915. Around sixty-four of them were built in several small batches between February and October 1915. The maximum at the front was a little under two dozen in Spring to mid-summer 1916 (with an unexplained dip in numbers in April). Air crews found it easy to fly and robust, and its lifetime was extended even though it was never seen in large numbers. Once pilots grew accustomed to its characteristics, the forward nose-over wheels were frequently removed. While the forward field-of-fire was excellent, the lack of rear protection eventually turned into a major limitation.

This model is of an Ago C.I with the 160hp Mercedes D.III engine and a reduced, two-wheel undercarriage, as was common in late production models.   In 1:144, there is a sibling product with the Benz engine and full undercarriage.

This product comes in two scales: 1:144 and 1:285/6mm/1:288.   The 1:285 product contains two aeroplanes, one with a Benz engine and full undercarriage; one with a Mercedes engine and reduced undercarriage.  They are joined by a disposable link to keep the price down, since single-part models are more affordable.  You can break the link with nail clippers, wire cutters, or similar.

DESIGNER NOTE:  Models at scales smaller than 1:144 may no longer be available.  Shapeways discontinued the material for which they were designed, and the newer materials require that each and every model be adjusted to thicken surfaces like wings.  If you are interested in a particular model in a small scale, please let me know and I will prioritize it higher in the queue.
