NG Fred sitting on bench wearing hat

This 1:20.32 scale figure is posed on one of my Hyde Park benches and was designed to fit perfectly on that model. It is available in various scales upon request but at this time, I’m just releasing it in 1:20.32 and 1:13.7142 scales. It is also available in both scales wearing a hat. The cat in the images is not available; being a figure that belongs to DAZ3d. As with all my figures, make sure the dimensions work with your diorama or layout. I try to scale my figures to the actually size of the people that inspired them and not to a specific standard established for reasons I don’t understand.

This is probably my best Fred sculpt so far. Part of the challenge of sculpting in 3D for prints is the restrictions on the number of polygons Shapeways allows for a print. One million polygons may seem like a lot, but when you consider that the epidermis of human skin has approximately 1.6 trillion skin cells [source: BBC] one million seems like a paltry amount.

With such a limit it is always a challenge to determine where best to use the precious few polygons you are allowed. The face is important to me but without a good pose and carefully execute clothing deformations the likeness is worthless.

I believe I have finally struck a balance in this piece which, I feel, will appeal to the eye. Perhaps one day, not so far in the future, printing will become so fast and detailed they will raise the polygon limit.
