Product Description
This cabin is offered in two variations regarding style: a narrow cabin ("small") and a wide cabin ("large"). The narrow cabin does not overextend its platform at the end of the car; the wide cabin is designed to overhang the roof of the car slightly. Decide on the style that will work best for your railway's needs.  Each size variation comes with two cabins!

OVERVIEW

This HO/OO-scale brakeman's cab is designed to be a perfect fit for early Fleischmann boxcars or vans-- it includes the necessary tabs and handrail-mounting holes to make it an easy drop-in replacement for a cabin that's been damaged by an unfortunate fall.  No modifications to the van are necessary except for the removal and re-installation of the end ladder handrails.

The design of this cabin is freelanced and is not based on any particular prototype, although the intricate exterior details carefully follow design cues found on the Fleischmann boxcar that the cabin is meant to be fitted to.  The non-standard design of this cabin also means that it's perfect for adding a bit of variety to a rake of otherwise-matching European guterwagen.  Interior window frames make the installation of clear plastic window glazing easy, as provided by the modeler.  The "large" brakeman's cab also has a separate, easy-to-install roof to make interior access even simpler. Perhaps you have an HO crewman who'd like to ride along...?

MISCELLANY

This part looks great in either SFDP or XSFDP material, although we've noticed that XSFDP prints have a slightly smoother finish to them with less-noticeable printing lines.

We recommend washing this part with isopropyl alcohol to remove any leftover wax before painting, and then to paint the cabin both inside and out with a primer color before applying your final exterior paint color of choice. If you have a steady hand and a very small paint brush, it's quite easy to even add a secondary trim color to the cabin using the raised "metal" bracing as a guide!

The roof and the body of the "large" cabin are designed as separate parts joined by a small sprue which must be removed by the modeler; the "small" cabin is printed with its roof attached, but still must be separated from its adjoining mate before use. (Remember, you get two cabins with either variation you purchase!) A small hobby blade and a file or sanding stick will be required to separate parts from their sprues and to clean up the edges.

Once separated, the roof of the "large" cabin is designed to fit into the cabin rather loosely, but once the parts are painted, the fit will be snug and secure.

Note: This brakeman's cab is NOT capable of space-time travel.
