Excelsior Weapons Pod and Base

A Nebula-class style weapons pod to upgrade and upgun your 1.1000th scale AMT/ERTL USS Excelsior model, the idea being to create what a heavily refitted Excelsior would have looked like late in the type's career when it was struggling to compete against newer ship classes. To use, simply glue the base to the main pod (superglue style adhesives recommended) and install in the gap in between the saucer's two impulse engine housings. I measured multiple sacuers (old reelase and new release) and the spacing between the housings varied from 5.6mm to 6mm. The base is a compromise at about 5.8mm. Note that you will likely need to lightly sand down the base of the pylon as the geometry of the Excelsior saucer can vary depending upon which iteration of the modelyo're using, and how tightly you cement the lower engine housing to the upper saucer piece. You may "angle" the impulse engines from flat to slightly angled downwards, so keep that in mind. Also keep in mind that the weapons pod is rather thin in width. It is recommended that you clean the assembly by washing it in warm soapy water with a soft brush like a toothbrush. Then, paint with modeling acryclics. It should probably be installed after you have completely painted and decaled the saucer so that it installs over any texturing decals.
