Front axle is set in front of the chassis. The builder will need to supply their own motor and exhaust pipes from a donor diecast car of their choice (Hot Wheels, Matchbox, or resin cast).
"Versatile" plastics have a gritty surface and will require priming with a couple of light coats of a spray filler/primer like Rustoleum. Sand between coats with fine grit paper, ending with a final 1000+ grit wet sand. Then color and clear coat for a super smooth finish. The colored plastics offered on shapeways are surface dyed and not worth the additional cost, since the majority of modelers will want to sand and paint their car.
Black Acrylate Resin plastic was considerably smoother, providing a glass smooth finish with far less effort than the "Versatile" material. Unfortunately, Shapeways just discontinued the material. Please contact them to request they bring it back. It was amazing!
I'd recommend using a narrower diameter front axle than the standard T-Jet. You have to drill the deliberately undersized holes to your specs. Use a drill bit the size of your axle, and twist it through by hand. Start with a smaller bit and work your way up to the size need for your axle.
The center bar through the engine compartment is there just for additional support during printing. Snip it out to make room for your choice of "show" engine. I hear Hot Wheels has some nice options! Note: you'll need a mini machine bolt and nut in leiu of a front screw post to hold together the guidepin, chassis, and body. You can find them at nearly any local hardware store.
