Product Description

An early effort of the Soviet atomic bomb program, development of the “RDS-2”/“Product 601” was initiated in 1946—a Uranium gun-type weapon, a counterpart (or copy) of the American “Little Boy” bomb, partially as a backup for the more sophisticated implosion setup of the concurrently designed RDS-1.

However, although work proceeded for two years, including casing and tail-fin configuration research by the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute “TsAGI,” a shortage of weapons-grade Uranium, the general inefficiency of the gun-type design, and the progress of the RDS-1 eliminated the need for “Project 601,” and it was cancelled in 1948. No functioning examples were ever tested or stockpiled.

Reconstructed from surviving technical information and photographs, this historical curiosity is now available for your model building projects—a novel addition for Alternate History or “What If?”  builds!

Available in 1/48 and 1/72 scale.
