Product Description
I created this pendant as a submission for the Shapeways and National Gallery of Denmark jewelry design contest. I drew inspiration from the painting "Trompe l'Oeil with Trumpet, Celestial Globe and Proclamation by Frederik III" by Cornelius Norbertus Gijsbrechts.
At the very first glance, my attention was immediately directed to the document in the middle of the painting. The white stood out from all the red, the use of lighter colors in between the letters to give them more depth, and even in the detail way the seemingly too small to read letters in the body were painstakingly placed told me that this was what Gijsbrechts intended his audience to focus on. So I've decided to pay tribute to his calligraphy.
This pendant features intertwining strokes in the swirling styles of Gijsbrechts. I try to achieve the "Trompe l'Oeil" or deception of the eye effect that Gijsbrechts is famous for by making different areas of the pendant have different width and thickness in order to imitate calligraphy written using a fountain pen. From the top down view, you can see this effect the most but as you turn the pendant, you can see that the strokes are not flat.
I intend the pendant to be worn several ways, you can attach a chain/string of your choice (or the ones Shapeways offers here) through the intertwining hoops to create a look you'd like. Thank you so much for reading and viewing this pendant, if you like my design, be sure to look at some of my other creations on my Shapeways shop below.
