An object's center of mass is the average position of the matter within it. Because of this, it is also the point around which the pull of gravity is focused. The position of an object's center of mass can greatly affect the way it moves and reacts to external stimuli. Race cars are designed to have very low centers of mass, which improves their stability. Runners, on the other hand, benefit from a higher center of mass because it increases the amount of kinetic energy they can put into each step.

By modifying the distribution of matter within an object, we can change the way gravity affects it. This is the core concept behind the Balance pendant.
