Product Description
This is an assembly to allow you to add the mid to late war twin 40mm Bofors positions to your 1/144th scale Fletcher-class destroyer model.

Please note that there is no camber nor sheer included in the clipping room bottoms. The modeler will need to do some light sanding to get the parts to conform to the deck line of his model.  This is because depending upon how “tightly” the modeler glues up the hull and the deck parts, and precisely where the parts are mounted, the camber in particular may vary. A few minutes on each side with a file will allow the modeler to custom fit each clipping room to his or her model’s deck. The little plugs that mirror the bottom of the clipping rooms are included in case the modeler sands a little bit too zealously; they can simply be plugged into the bottom of the clipping rooms and the modeler can have a second chance without resorting to buying another set!

FINAL NOTE: I have thickened the deck since Shapeways can apparently no longer print ot he original fidelity. The original decks were 0.3mm thin, which is close to what the original steel decks would have been absent supports and girder work. Now, they're about 0.65 thin - thicker but hopefully printable now. It still amazes me that a product printable on older machines is apparently unprintable on newer, more advanced ones. Anyway, I hope its fixed now.

The holes in the sides of the clipping rooms are for the photoetched aftermarket doors or hatches of your choice. Please check your references and photos as different ships often had different doors in the same locations.

The decks that attach the tubs to the centerline deckhouse may require some sanding or trimming to fit your particular ship - please note that there were a number of variations and differences between ships. While this set is meant to represent Bethlehem-built ships like USS Heerman and USS Boyd, even close sisters often exhibited differences, so please check your references!

Two 40mm mounting based and two 40mm spare barrel lockers are also included. Depending upon which aftermarket 40mm Bofors you use, the mounting base may or may not be needed. Please take care before gluing the base down permanently, as different Bofors will have different working circles, and you’ll want your guns to be able to rotate! Check your references to see where the ship you’re modeling carried its 40mm spare barrel lockers; some were near the gun on the deck, others were bolted to the exterior sides of the tubs.

Acrylic modeling paint is recommended. Soak the parts in soapy lukewarm water and then LIGHTLY clean using a soft toothbrush and allow to dry before mounting and painting.
