Parts in "Strong & Flexible" material to complete the model of the a coastal transport vessel of the GDR Nordstern series in 1:200 scale:
To complete a coaster, three different sets of 3D prints are needed:
With the parts, you can either build a static model or a working model that is controlled via radio control (RC). For an RC model, you need additional components (not available through Shapeways). Building an RC model requires the advanced skills and experience to complete the model.
To build an RC model, the following parts are needed:
- one 4 gram servo for steering (recommended: ES-07 by Modelcraft)
- one motor N20 (DC Ø 12mm x 15mm) for main propulsion
- one shaft of 68mm length (recommended: Graupner 413)
- one propeller of no more than 13mm diameter (recommended: Prop Shop STD/0550/3/RH/BR or STD/0550/3/LH/BR)
- coupling hose (recommended: Robbe R 1386)
During the years 1960 until 1963, 26 units of the coastal transport vessels of the "Serie Nordstern", also referred to as "Kümo 840" (see the
article in Wikipedia, unfortunately, only available in German currently) were built by Peene Werft, a major shipyard in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). As a successor to the earlier Kümo 500, they were larger and had a larger transport capacity. All units were named after stars in the Northern hemisphere and after towns and villages in the former GDR.
Technical data of the original:
length: 59.4 m
width: 9.8 m
propulsion: 1 diesel engine of 405 kW
capacity: max. 760 tons in two loading bays
The model is designed in 1:200 scale. It is set up to be built as a functional model with radio control. However, it can also be built as a static model for display. In addition to the propulsion system and steering, both cranes can be made operational.
