Product Description
This pendant design is based on a drawing by Ernst Haeckel of the underside of an Anthomedusae jellyfish*, Discalia medusina. The central mouth of the jelly is surrounded by its reproductive organs and these are protected by eight motile tentacles. Prof. Haeckel was fascinated by the medusae jellies, and even named his home in Jena, Germany the "Villa Medusa" in their honor.
*Technically, jellyfish are not true 'fish' because they are invertebrates. Most aquariums refer to them more correctly as 'jellies.'
