2 Albatros Scout Wheels, without tires
Parts to make 2 1:32 Albatros scout wheels, designed for you to fit your own rubber O-ring tires. These specifically are designed to depict Albatros-built D.V /D.Va aircraft wheels with metal covers, however may be applicable to other aircraft. Check your references! :) (And please let us know of any other appropriate applications.)
Instructions
Assembly
Glue wheel halves together with CA. You should clean them first (see below).
The wheels are designed to be mounted on a 1.70mm shaft, which is the correct scale axle size for a 1:32 scale Albatros scout. (Idflieg specifications: Axle diameter = 55mm OD Hub bore = 55.25mm ID .) We suggest replacing the kit axle shaft with a 1.5mm brass pin, and slipping a 1.7mm brass tube over it to represent the hollow axle tube. Drill two small holes at the end of each tube to insert a small wire cotter pin; this will hold the wheel in place and allow it to rotate, and will perfectly mimic the real thing.
Painting
To prepare the parts for painting, scrub them with a toothbrush in ordinary dish washing liquid and rinse thoroughly,
or soak them for up to 10 minutes in a small jar filled with acetone (nail polish remover.) Once the waxy support material is completely removed, the parts will appear white wherever support material was needed during printing. We recommend carefully sanding these white areas with a sharpened fine grade sanding stick (or similar) to remove the texture caused by the support material. With care this can be done without spoiling the details. Note that the premium FXD material requires much less prep than the less expensive FUD variety.
