Product Description

This choker is made of Platonic solids wireframes in the same style as our Bone Platonic Progression Earrings. The front of the choker features a dodecahedron and two icosahedrons, and the remainder of the chain consists of a repeating sequence of tetrahedrons, cubes, and octahedrons.

This design is 16 inches (40 cm) long. It includes a 3D-printed hook clasp, so it is a complete 3D-printed necklace with no other pieces required. The parts of the choker are 3D printed all at once as interlocking pieces without joints or seams and then dyed. If you are interested in a different length, I would be happy to create longer or shorter versions; just ask! You could also extend the choker by adding chain links, and the hook clasp can be easily cut off if you would like a different style of clasp. We would also be happy to make a custom version for you through our Etsy shop.

This choker design illustrates all five of the Platonic solids. The earliest known versions of these shapes were sculpted in stone by artists around 2000 B.C. Centuries later, the philosopher Plato wrote passionately about them, and his writings were so well-known that they gave the shapes their name. Later, Euclid drafted mathematical proofs about the Platonic solids. The astronomer Kepler attempted to explain the motions of the planets in the sky using nested Platonic solids, before discovering his three laws of planetary motion that describe how the planets orbit the Sun on elliptical orbits.
